13th International Policy Dialogue Forum

This year, the 13th Policy Dialogue Forum and governance meetings of the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 (TTF) will take place from 1-3 December 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda and on-line. Jointly organized by the TTF Secretariat, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Rwanda, the over-arching theme of this year’s policy dialogue forum is ‘Innovation in teacher policy and practice for educational recovery with particular attention to: i) innovation in teaching and learning, (ii) initial and in-service teacher education and (iii) education policy.

As the engine of improvement in education, innovation is critical for improving education quality for all learners and needs to be at the heart of education policies and policy making. The 2021 Policy Dialogue Forum will bring together education stakeholders from around the world, both in-person and on-line, to discuss the complexities of the post-COVID era and identify how to ‘build back better’ and ensure that education systems harness and expand collective capabilities for innovation. It will generate policy recommendations for ministries, civil society organisations, international organisations and donors that support teachers, school leaders, teacher educators and policy-makers.

World Teachers’ Day 2025 to be celebrated in Addis Ababa alongside Pan African Conference on Teachers’ Education

The Teacher Task Force is pleased to announce that World Teachers’ Day 2025 will take place on 1 October 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in conjunction with the Pan African Conference on Teachers’ Education (PACTED 2025).

Further details about the World Teachers’ Day 2025 celebrations, including the official theme and programme, will be shared here in due course.

Celebrated annually since 1994, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers—the international standard setting out teachers’ rights, responsibilities, and working conditions—as well as the 1997 Recommendation on Higher-Education Teaching Personnel. The day honours the transformative role of teachers in shaping education and reflects on the support they need to fully realise their potential. World Teachers’ Day is convened in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNICEF, and Education International (EI).

Teacher Task Force to participate in G20 Education Working Group meeting in South Africa

The Teacher Task Force will take part in the upcoming third G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) meeting in Durban, South Africa, on 2–3 July 2025. Further details on the Task Force’s involvement will be shared here in due course.

Under South Africa’s 2025 G20 Presidency, the EdWG is focusing on three key priorities to drive inclusive and future-ready education systems: Quality Foundational Learning, Mutual Recognition of Qualifications, and Education Professional Development for a Changing World. These themes reflect South Africa’s commitment to promoting solidarity, equity, and sustainability in education, particularly in support of the African continent’s development agenda.

Teacher Task Force to present at Leeds Beckett University international conference on global teacher education

The Teacher Task Force will take part in the inaugural international conference Global Perspectives in Teacher Education: Challenging the Standard Education Model, hosted by Leeds Beckett University's Carnegie School of Education in collaboration with the British Educational Research Association.

The Teacher Task Force Secretariat will contribute to the programme through two sessions:

  • A presentation on the 2024 Global Report on Teachers: Addressing Teacher Shortages and Transforming the Profession, sharing the report’s major findings, data insights and policy recommendations.

  • An interactive session that will contribute to the development of the upcoming 2026 Global Report on Teachers.

The conference, taking place from 26–27 June 2025 in Leeds, UK, will bring together educators, researchers, policy experts, and practitioners to explore the global impact of teacher education systems, with themes including sustainability, inclusion, diversity, curriculum reform, and global citizenship. The event aims to support the achievement of the Education 2030 goals by fostering international collaboration and generating innovative responses to the teacher recruitment and retention crisis.

The Teacher Task Force’s contributions will highlight how global evidence and shared learning can inform national and international efforts to strengthen teacher policy and build more equitable, resilient, and future-ready education systems.

World Summit on Teachers in Santiago de Chile

UNESCO and the Government of Chile are pleased to announce the World Summit on Teachers, to be held in Santiago de Chile.

Taking place on 28 and 29 August 2025, with a “Day Zero” on 27 August for socio-cultural activities, visits, and pre-accreditation, the Summit is organized in conjunction with the SDG 4 High-Level Steering Committee meeting.

Building on the recent global events and reports that forged a global consensus on the need to invest in dignifying the teaching profession, the Summit aims to address the global challenge of teacher shortages and to advocate for sustained support for teachers in a challenging economic and socio-political context.

It will bring together ministers, teacher representatives, international organizations and key education stakeholders for high-level dialogue on teacher policies, financing, innovation and inclusion.

Teacher Task Force to launch Arabic version of the Global Report on Teachers at GESS Saudi Arabia 2025

The International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 will participate in the Saudi Arabia Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) conference 2025 a major international education exhibition and conference taking place in Riyadh from 26-28 May 2025.

As part of the opening high-level session on 26 May, the Teacher Task Force will launch the Arabic version of the Global Report on Teachers, entitled Addressing teacher shortages and transforming the profession, which has been translated into Arabic and published in collaboration with UNESCO and the UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education (RCQE).

A representative of the Teacher Task Force Secretariat will present key findings and recommendations from the report to an audience of key education experts and decision-makers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the wider region, and across the globe. The session will focus on the urgent need to transform the teaching profession and address teacher shortages through informed policies and strategic investment. This high-level event forms part of a wider programme of activities at GESS Saudi Arabia aimed at anticipating the future of education and fostering international cooperation.

The Teacher Task Force’s participation reflects its continued commitment to supporting countries in building stronger teacher policies and systems through global knowledge sharing and regional engagement.
