Learning through play - Preschool teacher training - Participant Handbook

This training package equips early childhood development (ECD) workers in Sierra Leone with practical tools and guidance to deliver quality, play-based early learning. Grounded in neuroscience and child development principles, it emphasizes the critical role of early experiences and responsive relationships in shaping young brains. The guide includes key messages, suggested activities, planning templates, and strategies for engaging families and communities. It supports ECD educators in creating nurturing environments, using local languages, and fostering consistent routines-laying the foundation for children’s lifelong learning, school readiness, and overall well-being. It is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, UNICEF and the Global Partnership for Education.
