    Teaching to prevent atrocity crimes: a guide for teachers in Africa

    This is UNESCO's first resource with a regional focus on teaching to prevent atrocity crimes. It was developed with the United Nations and in partnership with the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA). The guide was informed by exchanges with African stakeholders and advisors and tested through a piloting exercise with African teachers and students. It provides principles for teachers to consider in facilitating learning and constructive discussions with their students.

    Innovation route: Professional level

    At the professional level, innovation will be discussed and it will be analyzed what has changed in pedagogical methodologies. There will also be success stories and proposals for the application of these methodologies that aim to guide the identification of improvement points, needs and problems in the classroom.

    This briefs presents what teacher representatives gain through coordinated action. The involvement of teacher representative bodies in broader policy dialogue takes place through multi-stakeholder coordination mechanisms, including local education groups (or the equivalent). Here, they can bring the attention of decision makers and other partners to issues and practices for ensuring coherence in the implementation of education policy, including investments needed in teacher preparation, professional development, raising teaching standards and improving teacher well-being.

    Gender-responsive pedagogy in early childhood education. A toolkit for teachers and school leaders

    The toolkit offers an introduction to gender-responsive pedagogy in early childhood education and serves as a practical guide that can be adapted to any context and the related needs. It provides teachers at early education practical tips to ensure they are able to offer children a learning environment that is free of prejudice and stereotypes. It is a source of ideas that individual teachers and school leaders can put to immediate use in their classrooms and schools. The toolkit was pre-trialled in three countries: Rwanda, South Africa and Zambia, and it can be contextualised for implementation in different African countries.

    History teaching module (TPACK based)

    The use of TPACK in the teaching of history is a commitment to facilitating a better understanding of the subject. The goal is to provide history teachers at the Junior Secondary School level with technology-driven multimedia teaching/learning resources and ideas for their classrooms.     Physics teaching module (TPACK based)

    This module structure is developed with distance learning in mind and emphasizes use of technology in teaching and learning concepts in physics. Each unit seeks to enhance a particular competency or approach through the concepts discussed under that particular unit. It is envisaged that as the trainees complete a particular unit they will not only be proficient in the physics subject content but also in the competency or approach being targeted.
