The professionalization of school leadership in Latin America: A review of eight educational systems

This study was commissioned and published for the Global Education Monitoring Report on school leadership (2024/5). It investigates the professionalization of school leadership in eight Latin American educational systems (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Honduras). School leadership is a critical factor for educational quality and a global reform priority. By leveraging TALIS 2018 data and detailed case studies, the research identifies both advancements and persistent challenges in policy implementation. The findings underscore the need for improved professional development and working conditions for school leaders, concluding with strategic policy recommendations for the region.
